This Saturday, the 31st of October, Berlin will be the acting grounds for the Bitfilm Festival, the Second Film Festival about Bitcoin. The Bitfilm productions organization selected Berlin for the kick-off event for the worldwide Festival Tour, which already counts with other scheduled dates and welcoming cities for the following events.

The Bitfilm Festival is a showcase of films that use digital technology in a creative and innovative way.  Since the year 2000, the Bitfilm Festival group has organized a series of events on the Internet and at the organization offices in Hamburg. The organization had several guest events in Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Bangalore, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, Berlin, and Paris. The group thought it could help promote Bitcoin and digital currencies by changing the scope of the event, and in 2014 the Bitfilm group reinvented the festival to become the world’s first film festival about Bitcoin.

In 2014, the festival took place in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Seoul, Amsterdam, Budapest and Ubud/Bali. Most events were organized with the help of the local Bitcoin communities. This year’s Bitfilm Festival will also count on local Bitcoin communities’ support and management.

The Bitfilm Festival will introduce a set of eight digital currency-related films that will be competing for the Bitfilm Festival Award. The event will be followed by online voting and a worldwide tour, which includes screenings in Amsterdam, Budapest, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Luxemburg, Saigon, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Ubud/Bali, and San Francisco. The film with the highest amount of votes in each category (short/long film) will win the Bitfilm Award. The end of the voting period is December 18th, 2015.
