BitPay has released some additional information when it comes to the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl taking place later this year in December. The Atlanta-based company in partnership with ESPN have launched the official website for the event at StPetersburgBowl.com.
Along with the launch of the site comes some interesting information with relation to the event itself.
Bitcoin/football fans will be pleased to learn that bitcoin will be accepted exclusively for the ticket pre-sale, which gives fans in the cryptocurrency community an opportunity to purchase tickets two weeks before the general sale takes place.
For the groups planning to travel to St. Petersburg, Florida for the event, in-stadium suites are available (with catering). Pricing has not surprisingly been published for this luxury.
A couple of other things to mention here.
BitPay has teamed up with the Traveling Coin to launch the BitcoinBowlPackages.com website where consumers can buy ticket/hotel/transport bundles with their digital currency. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Creating a bitcoin ecosystem
BitPay has been working hard to get merchants in the area to accept bitcoin. And they’re trying to get 100 merchants in the St. Petersburg area to accept the digital currency before the Bowl takes place.
“With the teams and alumni arriving a week before the game, we will be hosting bitcoin meetups and events every day around St. Pete at the local businesses that accept bitcoin,” the write in a Wednesday blog post.
At the game, a so-called “Fan Zone” will be established to allow bitcoin users to spend their digital money on games, merchandise, and more. Those without access to bitcoin will be able to buy the digital currency at installed bitcoin ATMs.
It’s looking to be a very exciting event. Stay tuned for additional information.
