Let’s just say there’s a bit a controversy surrounding a little company called Butterfly Labs. Release delays and lack of communication make for a less-than-perfect reputation, but today at CES, the company publicly showed off the guts of its latest bitcoin miner, the Monarch.
This miner may look like like a graphics card from the outside, but the inside is another story entirely. With hashing power of 600GH/s (using 350 watts of power), though, it won’t be cheap — coming in at a whopping $2196.00 (a cheaper 300GH/s variant will be available for $1497.00).
The folks over at Gizmodo have shared a series of images of the device’s internals. You can find a couple below.
Pre-ordering for the Monarch bitcoin miner is now open, and the company says they expect to start shipping them later this month, but given Butterfly Labs’ track record, that may be subject to change.
