Chamber Digital Commerce IRS Recognition Tax-Exempt Non-Profit

Just yesterday, we reported that the Chamber of Digital Commerce together with the Heritage Foundation would be holding a discussion panel on the topic of bitcoin and digital currency.

Today, we’re learning that the Chamber of Digital Commerce has received approval from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization under 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code.

What this means is that the Chamber of Digital Commerce is not recognized federally as a business league that promotes both digital currency itself, and the growing industry behind it, as noted in a Tuesday-morning news release.

“To have the IRS recognize our organization is a big step for the digital currency industry because this brings an added level of credibility to our efforts in Washington,” says Perianne Boring, President and Founder of the Chamber — which was established this past Summer at the North American Bitcoin Conference in Chicago. “This recognition adds legitimacy to our efforts to guide policy makers in sensitively and intelligently addressing blockchain technology.”

As mentioned, the Chamber is today holding a bitcoin panel in our nation’s capital with the Heritage Foundation — an event that began at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time (view here).

The Chamber of Digital Commerce bills itself as the “authoritative representative for the digital commerce industry in Washington.”

By working closely with the nation’s lawmakers, the goals include promoting policies favorable to digital currency and its usage.
