Online Bitcoin marketplace Coinbase has announced the launch of API v2 developer platform for Bitcoin applications.

In a blog post, the company said,

“We’re excited to announce the release of Coinbase API v2, now in “general availability.” We introduced API v2 into developer preview two months ago and received great feedback and suggestions from the community. Since then, our API team has been busy adding new features and endpoints and refining the API.”

Build Your Bitcoin Applications with API v2

The final versionof API v2 can now be used by all developers and merchants to build their Bitcoin applications. The API is user-friendly and has several new functionalities including New endpoints, New API key authentication, Versioning and errors, Cursor based pagination, Metadata fields, New Coinbase Ruby gem and last but not the least, New permissions (scopes).

Readers interested in API v2 platform can gain access to detailed information about each of the features right here.

Important Update Regarding API v1

Parties using Coinbase’s API v1 platform do not have to switch immediately to v2; the company will continue to provide support for v1 for the foreseeable future. However, it will work closely with the developers and merchants to eventually shift them to an improved v2.

Keep in touch!

Users can expect the Bitcoin wallet company to announce a more detailed and specific transition schedule for the existing apps in the new few weeks. The company will keep adding new features and announce more client libraries for the APIs in order to offer a complete suite to its clients.

Coinbase is among the fastest growing companies in the Bitcoin ecosystem. In mid-June, the company launched an Instant Exchange to eliminate the volatility risk while, at the end of June, it declared investment from Australia-based VC firm Reinventure Group.
