A special guest will be making an appearance at the New York City Bitcoin Center on Broad Street on Monday evening. Congressman Steven Stockman will be joining the center’s weekly Satoshi Square trading event — which will also serve as a celebration of the start of MediaBistro’s Inside Bitcoins event.
Representative Stockman of Texas is considered to be pro-bitcoin, and he isn’t a stranger to the Bitcoin Center — which sits just about one hundred feet away from the New York Stock Exchange. He made an appearance at the Center’s grand opening/New Year’s Eve bash in which he began accepting bitcoin donations for a Senate campaign.
Stockman isn’t the only one in Congress who’s seeing potential in bitcoin. Just last week, Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez of New York said that small businesses were recognizing the promise accepting bitcoins. Also recently, Congressman Jared Polis of Colorado came to the defense of bitcoin by satirically calling for a ban of the U.S. Dollar — a jab at Senator Joe Manchin’s demand to regulators to have bitcoin banned.
