French Minister for Economy and Finance Pierre Moscovici is reportedly planning to bring up regulatory issues surrounding bitcoin and digital currency as a whole with European Union member states, according to a report published at EurActiv.
“This is an imperative topic to be treated not only at national level but also at European level. In order to ensure this necessary convergence, I intend to request the other countries of the European Union to bring the topic on the agenda of the Ecofin Council,” he reportedly said to the press.
Alongside the call comes revelations that Moscovici’s own department has been looking into the very same regulatory issues for the past year (a report is forthcoming in April with recommendations).
Discussions surrounding the regulation of bitcoin have been commonplace since the digital currency has seen wide adoption in the past year.
Moving forward, it will be interesting to see where this goes. Read the full report.
