It would appear as if another continent is getting some bitcoin ATM machine goodness. This time around it’s South America, or more specifically, Brazil.
The machine — manufactured by Lamassu (and it should be noted that this device isn’t really an ATM in the sense we think of it as, because it online accepts cash. Not the other way around, so it’s more like a vending machine) — will be shown off at a tech event dubbed ‘Campus Party’ in São Paulo (which runs from Jan. 27-Feb. 2, where it will be temporarily in one of the many booths used to display technology of all kinds. Approximately 100,000 individuals are expected to be in attendance.
Rodrigo Batista, CEO of MercadoBitcoin, says “The ATM is a way to bring people to bitcoin”, despite the fact he says most of them haven’t even heard of bitcoin to begin with.
Following the event, Batista says the Lamassu device will be installed permanently somewhere in São Paulo’s financial district — but he isn’t certain where exactly. (via CoinDesk)
