A former (38th) Director of the United States Mint isn’t shy about showing his interest in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
Edmund C. Moy took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to report to his almost-1,000 followers that as of last week, he’s purchased his first bitcoin.
“Easy peasy!” he wrote in his Tweet, must to the satisfaction of those in the bitcoin community marveling at the irony of the entire situation.
I bought my first bitcoin last week. Easy peasy.

When asked by a Twitter user what took him so long, Moy indicated that he was waiting until he had time to write about the experience for Newsmax, a conservative news-media outlet.
Moy also indicated that his very first purchase was made using Coinbase, a brokerage of sorts that specializes in allowing individuals in the United States to buy and sell bitcoin easily (in addition to merchant services).
This isn’t the first time Moy has expressed interest in this emerging digital currency.
In an opinion piece published in January of this year, Moy wrote that a ban of bitcoin in China (which was a hot topic at the time) would validate cryptocurrencies.
Later in March, Moy shared his thoughts on a tax guidance directly related to bitcoin, issued by the Internal Revenue Service, outlining the pros and cons.
And if that’s not enough, Mr. Moy is planned to be delivering the keynote speech at Cryptolina, a conference that begins in mid-August.
Certainly, the community is thankful to have someone like Moy, as some would suggest his political and professional stature further legitimizes the digital currency.
