Not too long following the major news story that Mark Karpeles/Mt. Gox would be resigning their board seat at the Bitcoin Foundation comes news that the Tokyo-based exchange has deleted all of their tweets on Twitter.
It’s actually one of the largest bitcoin-related Twitter accounts, and the company’s move to simply get rid of all of their previous tweets signals that something is going on.
But it’s not exactly a loss for the company’s followers. Mt. Gox never really did use their Twitter account to post company updates and the like. A vast amount of their tweets were automated messages starting with “Dear customer”.
“It’s due to a flaw in the Twitter protocol,” wrote one user on social sharing website Reddit.com, taking a stab at the company’s blaming of a transaction malleability flaw in the bitcoin protocol for their current withdrawal issues.
Another user responded: “Tweet malleability damn near cost me all 140 characters and my entire history too!”
But there’s still some people out there with confidence left in Mt. Gox. Charlie Shrem of now-defunct BitInstant said on Reddit Sunday evening that he has spoken to Mark Karpeles at length this weekend.
“Speaking very lengthy [sic] to Mark and the team over the weekend, I see good news on the horizon for people who have funds stuck in MtGox (I also have funds in MtGox stuck),” he wrote.
