As quiet as the first launch in South Station came, the folks over at LibertyTeller have launched their second machine in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Also a unit from Lamassu, the device serves as a bitcoin vending machine, allowing users to insert U.S. dollars in exchange for bitcoin in approximately thirty seconds.

The move isn’t surprising. When I spoke to Kyle Powers and Chris Yim in Boston several weeks ago, they told me they had plans to expand, but at the time were uncertain of locations.

Specifically, the unit is located at the Clover Food Lab on 7 Holyoke Street in Cambridge, and it’s open and ready to give consumers bitcoins as they desire.

“In less than 3 weeks, over 500 customers have used our Liberty Teller bitcoin kiosk. Building off of the amazing community reception and volume we have seen from Boston’s South Station, we are expanding across the river to Cambridge. We have received many requests from the Harvard Square community and are pleased to announce the placement of our second machine with partner and food entrepreneur Ayr Muir of Clover Food Labs,” said company co-founder Chris Yim.

Clover Food Labs CEO Ayr Muir said, “I was approached by Chris, a fellow MIT grad who loves Clover. He asked if we would help him out with a little experiment to see if a high-traffic fast food restaurant like ours would be a good site for one of the first bitcoin ATMs in the country. We’re giving it a go and we’re excited to see what happens.”

“People want bitcoin fast, simple, and safe,” said LibertyTeller co-founder Kyle Powers. “That’s what we provide. We’re also having fun each day growing the bitcoin network, which we believe will ultimately provide consumers with lower costs, faster transactions, new applications, and greater access to financial services.”
