Now that Ross Ulbricht has been found guilty on all counts, many find themselves wondering… What’s next?
When the verdict was read and Ulbricht left the courthouse, several witnesses claim that his overall demeanor actually expressed threads of joy. He was described as being relatively upbeat, leaving alongside US Marshals waving to friends and family members as many onlookers sobbed about the outcome of the trial. Ross Ulbricht’s mother Lyn Ulbricht says that she expects her son to appeal the verdict… Is that why he looked so happy? Does he having something planned that he’s sure will result in his freedom or some other positive outcome?
Perhaps the biggest thing going for Ulbricht right now is the fact that many still believe the trial was not conducted fairly, and that the entire investigation was an infringement on his Fourth Amendment rights and Internet freedom as a whole. Some even took to creating a website calling for the alleged drug kingpin’s freedom.
In the midst of all this hullabaloo Ulbricht has been found guilty, and many sources are claiming that he now faces a life sentence. That’s right… The rest of his life behind bars… But how likely is it that he’ll receive such a sentence
Several of the drug charges that Ulbricht has been convicted of only carry sentences of about 10-20 years in prison, but quite easily the largest pieces of “evidence” (I use that word lightly, as the charges were never officially pressed) against him were the transcripts suggesting possible murder-for-hire schemes, which Ulbricht allegedly pursued almost half-a-dozen times. However, murder-for-hire charges have not been filed against Ulbricht and were not actually introduced in court. Furthermore, it is believed that no murders ever took place and none of the supposed victims have been found, so most of those stories have been tossed at this point.
So what do you all think the outcome will be? What do you predict to be Ulbricht’s likely sentence? 20 years? 30 years? Life? Or do you think he’ll file an appeal and win? Post your comments below.

I don’t think he will get a life sentence but probably in the ballpark range of 45 years, which isn’t too great either. We already know that he will be serving a minimum of 30 years since the kingpin charge carries a minimum of 20 years and the narcotics conspiracy charge 10 years. Since he has no prior record and the fact that he is only 30 years old, I would be very surprised if they gave him a life sentence. It’s a shame that our nation has such draconian laws in regards to drug offenses.
Yeah…he should be sentenced to hugs and petting unicorns.
The drug laws in the United States are absolutely ludicrous. The “kingpin” charged pegged on this guy is one normally reserved for Mafia bosses/cartel leaders, or other individuals generally running large criminal enterprises responsible for countless amounts of violence. Don’t get me wrong, this guy is no saint and facilitating a large, organized haven for drug sales is no small potatoes crime, but let’s be honest here – he does not deserve anywhere near life in prison.
This guy is guilty of operating an anonymous website that allowed drug users to buy from dealers/other users, SAFELY and PEACEFULLY, for their own personal use, not for smuggling tonnes of drugs into the country and setting off gang wars in the streets. He was NOT running a violent criminal enterprise, and from what I understand, he was not even selling any drugs himself, merely running the website. (note: For anybody who might bring up the hit man thing, the “alleged” murder-for-hire plot should have no bearing on his sentence due to the fact these allegations were never introduced to the court as there is no evidence to support any real murders taking place).
This whole case ties directly into the inherently corrupt judicial system of the USA. When it all comes down to the nuts and bolts, this kid is going to get hung out to dry because this is a monumental case for all the government agencies involved in this prosecution, and sets a major precedent for all internet-based drug cases to follow. In order to send the clear, strong message they want to send with this grandiose conviction, this guy will spend a hugely disproportionate amount of time in prison for his crime, while meanwhile a bunch of suits will be patting each other on the back, basking in the glory and enjoying the nice career boost that comes with it.
45 years in prison for a wimpy mommas boy is worse than a death sentence! Poor ross;s tush will be a wind tunnel!
Don’t do the crime if your not man enough to do the time.
Don’t be an idiot. The corner drug dealers touting guns or the cartels funneling endless amounts of drugs into poor economic areas are where the real war on drugs should focus. The simple drug user who chose to purchase their goods over a somewhat secure darknet website or the administrator of said site that allowed them the opportunity to avoid gangs and/or cartels to purchase those same goods is not where our tax dollars should be focused. If you line up the “victims” of silk road against the “victims” of any other drug enterprise accounts t would be laughable.
Ross broke the law, and although I never heard of this site before this arrest I can see why he did it. Of course there was a monetary gain for him, but his supporters are many….and much more relevant then the supporters of a cartel would ever be.
The moron ran an illegal market place for illegal goods. Get that through your thick skull wanna be a big time crook skull! You’ll be locked up and passed around soon with your idiot attitude and ideas about the world.
If rin tin jackass ross didn’t go on national tv to brag about himself and silkroad he’d be free, infact the darkmarkets would have been chugging along and bitcoin never would have rocketed up and flash crashed either. Nig nog niggity niiiiigggerr!
Grow up you racist imbecile.
You dont have a fucking point, just running your damn mouth like some punk kid.
…cause that’s what you are.
How exactly is ross being dumb enough to get caught make me a racist? That’s pretty outthere even for a hard core bitcoin cultists! LMFAO!!!!!!!!!! Nigger is in the dictionary and is not specific to race, creed or color idgit!
Yeah, I guess all the people who helped run away slaves shouldn’t have done the crime either.
Weak and pointless.
How about we fix America instead of using that as a cop out.
This country’s laws have been modified as deemed politically necessary.
That’s pretty outthere even for a hard core bitcoin cultists! LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!
everyone assumes in jail Ross will be raped and bullied but that’s actually the opposite of what will happen. he’s a highly intelligent individual with knowledge that could be very lucrative for him on the inside. in fact he will probably make some friends who will want his help in planning a new online silk road
