Making a public debut just about a week ago, The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin — the tale of bitcoin’s epic growth in the past two years — has hit the number 1 spot on the iTunes Documentaries list.
The release of the film came following many delays encountered with distribution, but finally, it’s happened, and the reviews of the film are thus far positive.
The film is directed by Nicholas Mross, and follows his brother, Dan Mross in his journey to mine bitcoin and interview notable entities in the bitcoin community. Appearances include the Winklevoss twins, Roger Ver, and disgraced Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpeles.
The film is available for purchase via iTunes for $12.99 and also for rent for $4.99.
But many folks have decided to get the film via other methods: torrenting.
And while you might expect users to download and run, its seems that just the opposite took place. Scores of users showed their support following viewing the title by making bitcoin donations to the individuals behind the film.
Nearly $3,000 (or over 7 bitcoins) have been donated so far.
And while the director of the film, Nicholas, did not wish to elaborate on how he felt about the torrenting of the movie, he did say that “we very much appreciate the donations from the community.”
