Are you a developer living in the United Kingdom (and more specifically in the London area)? If you’re reading this, you’re probably interested in digital currency — and you should know that the UK’s first digital currency hackathon is taking place this month.
Aptly named HackCoin, the hackathon takes place for two days from June 28th-29th (Saturday/Sunday), according to the website set up for the event.
“The aim of HackCoin is also to catalyze investment into the digital currency startup community during the Hackathon weekend and beyond (many prizes focused on helping fund ideas),” the site reads, adding:
Over the weekend of June 28th – 29th we welcome hackers to come and test out their most creative ideas in crypto currency Fintech in any digital currency that they choose. Pay for dogs walkers with Dogecoin, a lottery app that pays out in LuckyCoin, a site for funding movies in Bitcoin? We look forward to seeing your creative hacks…
Hackathons in the digital currency community are nothing new. Here in the United States, we’ve had a few of these events take place.
The Bitcoin Center in New York City hosted its first hackathon earlier this year. As did digital payments processor Coinbase in early February.
Why are these hackathons becoming a big thing? Simple. To encourage innovation in the digital currency sector.
The two-day event will start with an opening talk on the 28th, followed by a breakfast. Following that, teams will be formed and the hacking will begin.
On day two, the hacks will need to be finished. Judging shall commence and prizes will be awarded.
Who knows? Maybe the next big thing in terms of software in the community will come from this event!
