A Look Around the Private Museum: The Metaverse Bringing Fine Art to the Digital World

After NFTs had their breakout success in 2021, the way we think about art changed forever. There now exists a mechanism for the production of truly digital-native art. Yet the vitality of traditional, physical art has not disappeared.

Private Museum is the first and only curated gallery for traditional art NFTs backed by the actual physical pieces. It’s A link between the essential physical and the digital divine. Private museum will exist digitally, as its own fully-fledged metaverse, but is also opening galleries in major cities so it can create access – for everyone – to the modern masterpieces of the NFT generation.

Why Art Can Be Out of Reach

Art always changes, but our appreciation of it does not. Art always innovates, but how we experience and embrace art can stay the same. For years, the art world has existed in cloistered galleries, walled-off and inaccessible, curated by professors in ivory towers. Most people – even those who love art – would never normally visit a private gallery. More problematically, brilliant artists who are worthy of our attention get sidelined due to the barriers created by these traditional spaces.

How Private Museum Empowers Artists and Collectors

Private Museum has created a complete ecosystem for artists and creators that aims to bring the wonder of NFT art out into the light, and in the process democratise the fine art market – letting artists all around the world have the chance to give their art to the world in one click. It aims to showcase the genius talent of this new cohort of artists, and extend the appreciation and understanding of NFTs beyond just simple monkey pictures. There is nothing wrong with monkey pictures, but Private Museum is focused on bringing classic fine art – paintings and sculptures and the like – to the digital world.

This is because all Private Museum’s NFTs are all unique and are based on an existing physical piece of art. The NFT is a digital value-add to the artwork that already exists in the physical. If an artist wants Private Museum to host their work, they create a contract, then Private Museum creates the NFT in collaboration with the artist, and then they host it for public consumption in their public museum.

Public and Private Museums

Public museums are owned by the Private Museum project. They are the gateway to the rest of Private Museum’s ecosystem. In the public museum, visitors and collectors enjoy an enchanting digital space of VR and 3D art, a panoptic vision of the modern NFT world. The public museum also hosts a marketplace so that collectors can buy NFTs straight off the (digital) gallery wall. There will also be special events, private sales, and community-only auctions to participate in.

How Private Museum’s NFTs Open Up the Metaverse

The NFT artworks are all imprinted and verified by Private Museum. Owning one gives you access to the entire ecosystem they have created. Once you own one, you can join the giant community of digital art collectors who also attend the museum, creating a space where they share their love of art.

They are also planning to give users the ability to create their own private museum. This museum represents a user’s own space within the Private Museum metaverse. Here, they can show off the artwork they’ve created, and invite others in to see their collection in a beautifully rendered VR/3D space.

Users having their own private museum creates a space in the metaverse where they can invite and chat to friends, guests, strangers and – who knows – other collectors who might be keen on buying a piece from your collection. This metaverse is – like all metaverses – still being developed. Yet soon digital art galleries will be a commonplace reality, and Private Museum aims to be the first.

Remembering the Physical Art

The art is not just pure NFTs though. Private Museum’s collections are all underpinned by real physical artwork. And, in Private Museum’s auctions, the art-loving community can buy the actual physical artwork as well as the NFT. Although Private Museum believes art’s future will, in part, reside on-chain, it still believes firmly in the transcendental glory of physical art, and seeks to use technology of the blockchain to make that physical art world more accessible to everyone.

As such, a vital plank of Private Museum’s roadmap is to create offline experiences through NFT galleries in some of the world’s great cities. This space will walk the liminal line between digital and physical, and create a meaningful bridge between the reality we inhabit at the virtual paradise we may soon together tread.

Blockchains and Roadmaps

For now, Private Museum’s NFTs exist as ERC-721 tokens on the Polygon and BNB networks. This is only the first step. Private Museum knows the future is multi-chain, and intends to extend its metaverse of private and public NFT museums to a wide variety of mainstream blockchains over the upcoming months.

To date, over 2500 artworks have been certified and authenticated, and there are more than 162 collections available to view. These numbers at such an early stage indicate that Private Museum is doing something very right indeed. Artists want to work with them, and collectors want to buy from their galleries. When their galleries are released to the general public, it will truly kickstart a new way of appreciating, buying, and finding the latest the art world has to offer.

Making Art Transcend Boundaries

Art is always the first to pave the way with new technology. Art is the sustenance that keeps the modern soul alive. By marrying groundbreaking NFT technology with the world of physical art collecting, Private Museum is building a bridge between the real and unreal, physical and digital, the present and the future. So, enjoy the gallery, purchase your favourite piece, and soon you’ll have a private museum of your very own.
