Olivier Janssens, the newly elected Bitcoin Foundation board member, recently took a revolting stand against the organization.
The celebrated Bitcoin adopter accused the foundation of “lacking transparency of its actions,” while exemplifying their decision to ignore recording the board meetings. “We [him and Jim Harper] followed Robert’s rules of orders, and everyone else basically shut us down and failed to follow procedures,” wrote Janssens, while recalling his version of truth.
“The Bitcoin Foundation hates transparency,” he later implicated.
Janssens constantly stressed on some trivia related to the Bitcoin Foundation’s bankruptcy, saying that the organization is distrustful and is therefore not receiving any sort of funds from Bitcoin communities. He went on blaming them for ridiculously spending funds from the last two years, implying that their recent pledge to focus only on Bitcoin’s core development was a stunt to simply generate more money.
“The truth is that the Foundation’s plan was to hire even more core developers + to start a Bitcoin Standards Body. No organization should have this much control over Bitcoin, and a disaster was avoided.”
Interconnecting these near dots, Janssens outrightly called the Bitcoin Foundation an organization that is not interested in practicing transparency. In his opinion, the current body simply ignored to tell people and its own members the truth that they don’t have sufficient money to support the group. They are now planning to replace the current executive director Patrick Murck with someone who could take the fall of the Bitcoin Foundation on his head.
Overall, Janssens’s sudden outburst literally brought the Bitcoin Foundation to gutters. They would surely have to make some really veracious public statements to repel the attack. Let alone, the damage is done and will take more than just a clarification in times of mending.
This article makes no sense to me. I can’t make heads or tails of it.
Learn to read better then. Zoolander’s school for kids who can’t read good is taking new applicants.
What is revolting about Oliver’s stand? How exactly did he exemplify their decision? Who TF is Robert? He hasn’t been mentioned in the article. What does “stressed on some trivia” mean? “Interconnecting these near dots” <- who writes like this? What dots? "Ignored to tell people" <- what? "take the fall of the bitcoin foundation on it's head" again.. what? "Brought the Bitcoin foundation to gutters"<– OMG.. "Let alone, the damage is done" Nothing is being conjoined here!
I understand that English may be the the authors second language but he really needs an editor. This story is barely English.
Ok simple terms. Bitcoin foundations new chairman after being elected to the post has found out the bitcoin foundation is full of self serving buttmunches who really have no interest in anything other than lining there own pockets with fiat cash. Clear now?
That’s pretty clear. Maybe you should write the articles. You didn’t answer any of my questions tho.
I answered who the eff Robert is, read above.
You didn’t mention Robert at all or say who he was.
One more time with feeling!
You really are ignorant if you don’t know Roberts Rules of order.
“Who TF is Robert?” Seriously!?!?
Robert’s Rules of Order – Summary Version
For Fair and Orderly Meetings & Conventions
Provides common rules and procedures for deliberation and debate in order to place the whole membership on the same footing and speaking the same language. The conduct of ALL business is controlled by the general will of the whole membership – the right of the deliberate majority to decide. Complementary is the right of at least a strong minority to require the majority to be deliberate – to act according to its considered judgment AFTER a full and fair “working through” of the issues involved. Robert’s Rules provides for constructive and democratic meetings, to help, not hinder, the business of the assembly. Under no circumstances should “undue strictness” be allowed to intimidate members or limit full participation.
Guidelines
Obtain the floor (the right to speak) by being the first to stand when the person speaking has finished; state Mr./Madam Chairman. Raising your hand means nothing, and standing while another has the floor is out of order! Must be recognized by the Chair before speaking!
Debate can not begin until the Chair has stated the motion or resolution and asked “are you ready for the question?” If no one rises, the chair calls for the vote!
Before the motion is stated by the Chair (the question) members may suggest modification of the motion; the mover can modify as he pleases, or even withdraw the motion without consent of the seconder; if mover modifies, the seconder can withdraw the second.
The “immediately pending question” is the last question stated by the Chair! Motion/Resolution – Amendment – Motion to Postpone
The member moving the “immediately pending question” is entitled to preference to the floor!
No member can speak twice to the same issue until everyone else wishing to speak has spoken to it once!
All remarks must be directed to the Chair. Remarks must be courteous in language and deportment – avoid all personalities, never allude to others by name or to motives!
The agenda and all committee reports are merely recommendations! When presented to the assembly and the question is stated, debate begins and changes occur!
The Rules
Point of Privilege: Pertains to noise, personal comfort, etc. – may interrupt only if necessary!
Parliamentary Inquiry: Inquire as to the correct motion – to accomplish a desired result, or raise a point of order
Point of Information: Generally applies to information desired from the speaker: “I should like to ask the (speaker) a question.”
Orders of the Day (Agenda): A call to adhere to the agenda (a deviation from the agenda requires Suspending the Rules)
Point of Order: Infraction of the rules, or improper decorum in speaking. Must be raised immediately after the error is made
Main Motion: Brings new business (the next item on the agenda) before the assembly
Divide the Question: Divides a motion into two or more separate motions (must be able to stand on their own)
Consider by Paragraph: Adoption of paper is held until all paragraphs are debated and amended and entire paper is satisfactory; after all paragraphs are considered, the entire paper is then open to amendment, and paragraphs may be further amended. Any Preamble can not be considered until debate on the body of the paper has ceased.
Amend: Inserting or striking out words or paragraphs, or substituting whole paragraphs or resolutions
Withdraw/Modify Motion: Applies only after question is stated; mover can accept an amendment without obtaining the floor
Commit /Refer/Recommit to Committee: State the committee to receive the question or resolution; if no committee exists include size of committee desired and method of selecting the members (election or appointment).
Extend Debate: Applies only to the immediately pending question; extends until a certain time or for a certain period of time
Limit Debate: Closing debate at a certain time, or limiting to a certain period of time
Postpone to a Certain Time: State the time the motion or agenda item will be resumed
Object to Consideration: Objection must be stated before discussion or another motion is stated
Lay on the Table: Temporarily suspends further consideration/action on pending question; may be made after motion to close debate has carried or is pending
Take from the Table: Resumes consideration of item previously “laid on the table” – state the motion to take from the table
Reconsider: Can be made only by one on the prevailing side who has changed position or view
Postpone Indefinitely: Kills the question/resolution for this session – exception: the motion to reconsider can be made this session
Previous Question: Closes debate if successful – may be moved to “Close Debate” if preferred
Informal Consideration: Move that the assembly go into “Committee of the Whole” – informal debate as if in committee; this committee may limit number or length of speeches or close debate by other means by a 2/3 vote. All votes, however, are formal.
Appeal Decision of the Chair: Appeal for the assembly to decide – must be made before other business is resumed; NOT debatable if relates to decorum, violation of rules or order of business
Suspend the Rules: Allows a violation of the assembly’s own rules (except Constitution); the object of the suspension must be specified
Yes. I am ignorant of what RROO are. As are most readers. I just asked my officemates if they knew and I got blank stares. If you bring up Robert’s Rules of Order at least capitalize it, spell it correctly and indicate that they are some standard set of rules. I didn’t read that whole ridiculous thing that you posted but just scanning it it still doesn’t seem to indicate who TF Robert is.
If you are writing something to inform you must assume that the reader doesn’t know about the topics you are informing them about. If your audience knew everything already why would they read it?
Is this guy your friend? You seem to be taking this really personally.
Pulled directly from the Article follows as it clearly references Roberts Rules of Order properly spelled. “We [him and Jim Harper] followed Robert’s rules of orders, and everyone else basically shut us down and failed to follow procedures,” . To answer your other question Oliver(acting newly elected bitcoin foundation chairman) is not my “buddy”. no disrespect towards you but where I’m from elementary grade schooler’s know Roberts Rules of Order by heart. Boogles my mind that you have the internet at your finger tips and can’t do any leg work or fact check but instead post childish rants when don’t understand the information presented to you. Your part of a larger whole of lazy knee jerk reactors.
The fundamental right of deliberative assemblies require all questions to be thoroughly discussed before taking action!
The assembly rules – they have the final say on everything! Silence means consent!
Now to clean up the blood as I face palmed so hard when I read your comment I broke my nose and sprayed blood everywhere.
Robert’s Rules of Order Revised
by General Henry M. Robert he published his rules in 1915.
Henry Martyn Robert (May 2, 1837 – May 11, 1923) was the author of Robert’s Rules of Order, which became the most widely used manual of parliamentary procedure and remains today the most common parliamentary authority in the United States.
Robert was born in Robertville, South Carolina, and raised in Ohio, where his father moved the family because of his strong opposition to slavery. Robert’s father, Reverend Joseph Thomas Robert, later became the first president of Morehouse College where there is a dormitory on the campus named after him. Robert was nominated to West Point from Ohio, and graduated fourth in his class in 1857. He became a military engineer.
Under command of Silas Casey during the Pig War(Bay of Pigs) he built the fortifications on San Juan Island. In the American Civil War, he was assigned to the Corps of Engineers and worked on the defenses of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and several New England ports.
Robert served as Engineer of the Army’s Division of the Pacific from 1867 to 1871. He then spent two years improving rivers in Oregon and Washington and six years developing the harbors of Green Bay and other northern Wisconsin and Michigan ports. He subsequently improved the harbors of Oswego, New York, Philadelphia, and Long Island Sound and constructed locks and dams on the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers. As Southwest Division Engineer from 1897 to 1901, Robert studied how to deepen the Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River.
Robert was president of the Board of Engineers from 1895 to 1901. He received a tombstone promotion to brigadier general on April 30, 1901, and was appointed Chief of Engineers. He served until May 2, 1901, when he retired from the Army. Following his retirement, he chaired a board of engineers that designed the Galveston, Texas seawall following the Galveston Hurricane of 1900.
He died in Hornell, New York, and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
He is most famous for his Pocket Manual of Rules of Order for Deliberative Assemblies—a collection of rules regarding parliamentary procedure, published in 1876. He wrote the manual in response to his poor performance in leading a church meeting that erupted into open conflict because of abolitionist concerns at the First Baptist Church, 149 Williams Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He resolved that he would learn about parliamentary procedure before attending another meeting. The rules are loosely based on procedures used in the United States House of Representatives, but the rule book was not intended for use in national and state legislatures. At the time, Robert was a resident of Haworth, New Jersey.[1]
Before you fly off the handle ignorant means uniformed not stupid as it was clear you were uniformed(ignorant of) on Roberts Rules of Order.
The triva in question are the things and utter stupidity that lead to the bitcoin foundation blowing all it’s money on stuff like the uber exclusive invatation only tropical island retreat for the 50 most prominent btc douche bags and such. This triva-trivialty if you will has nearly bankrupted the bitcoin foundation. So instead of focusing on core developement like they promised last year they have just been doinking around wasting time and money. techie 20 something geeks really don’t make good biz men in the least as they are clueless to world finance and have no real world experience what so ever.
Maybe this will enlighten you a bit more also. Open source does not automatically equal decentralization. If it were that easy then there would be no need for all those mining computers running all the time. Some people try to claim that because anyone can submit a message on Github that it somehow makes it “decentralized.” If that is true then the US government is also “decentralized” since anyone can vote and send messages to elected officials. The Github repository is actually controlled by 5 or 6 people which makes it highly centralized. The ability to fork is a form of checks and balances but to claim the whole system is decentralized because of that is a bit of a stretch.
You really are ignorant if you don’t know Roberts Rules of order.
