California-based Stanford University has stepped into the arena of cryptocurrecy with its program titled “Crypto Currencies: Bitcoin and Friends (CS251)” to be launched in September 2015.

This is a new course that will be taught by Dan Boneh, Professor of Computer Science at the Stanford School of Engineering will be teaching this course under Cyber Security Graduate Certificate program.

The professor vouched for the cryptocurrency by saying that “the technology behind Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency can be an indispensable tool for protecting information.”

The program will also help those who wish to tread into the world of cryptocurrency but have been hesitating due to lack of knowledge.

Bitcoin and other such cryptocurrency units indeed hold the key to revolutionize the business payment transactions but what such a scenario also needs is advanced engineering that can help in securing privacy and also the protection of digital assets.

To disseminate more information on the program for enthusiasts, a webinar has been scheduled on August 25^th from 10-11 am Pacific/1-2 pm Eastern. This webinar will attempt to address recent developments in the world of cryptocurrency and computer security. Boneh himself is a seasoned hand and is a known Stanford cybersecurity expert. He is also the co-director of the Stanford Computer Security Laboratory and had participated in the 2015 White House Summit on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection. There are other online courses in this program as well and they are:

1. Computer and Network Security
2. Introduction to Computer Networking
3. Introduction to Cryptography
4. Operating Systems and Systems Programming
5. Technology and National Security

A student also will have to first fill for a Non-Degree Option application to get registered for the course. Citizenship will not be a bar and all registered students will have access to the program online. The program will also contain video lectures and other course materials, and a student will have to give exams and will have to complete four courses at least for getting a graduate certificate.
