The Hague, Netherlands played center stage to one of the first bitcoin boulevard events in the world two months ago, bringing together cryptocurrency users and businesses in spectacular fashion.
A group is hoping to continue this with Arnhem Bitcoincity, taking place in, well, Arnhem — in the east of the Netherlands.
“We found a bunch of local businesses willing to try and accept Bitcoin. It’s actually similar to the ‘Bitcoin Boulevard’ event that was organized two months ago in The Hague, which was a big success. And also a great way for people not involved in Bitcoin yet, to see how well it works in actual, every day practical situations,” we’re told by the event organizer.
Taking place on the 28th of May, Arnhem Bitcoincity (or Bitcoinstad) has secured about fifteen bars, restaurants, and cafés that will be accepting the digital currency for the day.
Participating in the Bitcoincity event are the following (with more expected):
- Café Brasserie Dudok Arnhem (one of the largest cafes/restaurants in Arnhem)
- Café Den Koopman
- Café Kleyn
- Café Pavlov
- Café Restaurant Diehl
- Café Stout
- Café de Beugel
- Dames en Heren Culinair Café
- Kohinoor of India
- Mo Lón sandwiches and more
- Njoy Café
- Oranje Koffiehuis
- Restaurant De Smidse
- Restaurant Karakter
- The Cavern Café
Select business owners are even participating with a twist, going so far as to add special items like the ‘Miner’s Menu’ and ‘Bitcoin Bowl’.
Additionally, some of the participating businesses find themselves curious about the payment system (hence why they’re giving it a shot), while others are looking forward to continuing bitcoin acceptance after the event is over.
The event organizers have equipped the participating locations with a “BitKassa” (or “BitcoinCheckout” in English) system to accommodate point-of-sale transactions easily and effectively.
For the most part, nearly all of the participating locations are going to be converting back to euros, but some displayed interest in holding on to their bitcoins if the ecosystem continues growing.
A bitcoin ATM will be on-hand at the event for those who need to acquire bitcoin before heading out.
