In a post published Tuesday on the Bitcoin Foundation blog, Affiliates Director at the Foundation Mark Woods today welcomed the Foundation’s newest affiliates from Germany and The Netherlands.
The first is Bundesverband Bitcoin (Germany) and Stichting Bitcoin Nederland (quite obviously, The Netherlands).
“Home to some of the most active bitcoin communities, both Germany and the Netherlands have entire streets of local businesses that prefer to accept bitcoin. The town of Kreuzberg in Berlin made headlines in 2013 and a street in the Hague in the Netherlands has been dubbed ‘Bitcoin Boulevard,'” writes Woods.
“The addition of Germany and the Netherlands to existing affiliates Canada, Australia, and Mexico increases our reach and strengthens our community’s impact and influence around the globe.”
Bundesverband Bitcoin finds it home in Berlin, and its leadership team consists of JF Gallas, Chairman & Press Coordinator; Joerg Platzer, Deputy Chairman; and Radoslav Albrecht, Board Member.
“By cooperating with the foundation, we strive to further professionalize the activities of German Bundesverband Bitcoin. It is a strong signal to local entities when diverse Bitcoin organizations are part of a global movement,” said Radoslav Albrecht.
“When you’re working on a local level, you sometimes lose sight of the bigger picture. We’re hoping that the Bitcoin Foundation can help us focus on long-term goals of establishing a truly free financial system. In return, we offer valuable local knowledge and leadership. After all, Bitcoin is a local currency with global reach,” added JF Gallas.
Stichting Bitcoin Nederland is based in Amsterdam (where Bitcoin 2014 took place last week), and its leadership team is made up of Jouke Hofman, Chairman; Carl Kuntze, Secretary; and Board Members Willem van Oort and Richard Kohl.
“We believe international cooperation is essential for the success of bitcoin worldwide. Partnering with the Bitcoin Foundation helps us to achieve our shared goal of protecting and improving the Bitcoin technology,” said Carl Kuntze.
Recently, the Foundation also announced a new international affiliate in Mexico. You can read our article about it here.
