There was quite a bit of buzz surrounding efforts earlier this year to bring dogecoin to NASCAR as a means of promoting the digital currency, and it happened.

Together, the dogecoin community raised enough funds to plaster their logo all over racer Josh Wise’s car, and now, members of the bitcoin community are looking to do much the same.

NASCAR driver Alex Bowman, along with his team (BKRacing), on Thursday announced support of a new crowdfunding campaign (dubbed Bitcoin23) that aims to bring a bitcoin-branded race car to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Beginning today through the 20th of August, Bitcoin23 (which is named after Bowman’s #23 car) is hoping to raise $100,000 to get Bowman’s car in a bitcoin livery in time for the races on Labor Day Weekend at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“This is an exciting time and opportunity for the Bitcoin community. The monumental success of the sport and Bowman and his team have made bringing Bitcoin to NASCAR possible,” commented Adam Hofman, lead writer for Bitcoin Magazine. “The success of Bitcoin23 will provide an opportunity to build stronger relationships between users, fans and businesses, throughout each community.”

Both BKRacing and Bowman are said to greatly support the digital currency, not surprisingly.

“Bitcoin is changing the way people think about how they spend money and pay for things,” Bowman remarked. “With as much that is sold at the track, I believe that a technology like bitcoin has a place in the sport. Introducing Bitcoin to NASCAR will bring new fans to racing and help drive mainstream adoption.”

Sports sponsorships are quickly becoming the way to get bitcoin on the minds of more people. Just ask BitPay, who will be sponsoring the St. Petersburg Bowl football game for three years.
